discussion
Discussion: Karyotype reported (2 n = 52), distribution amplified, and natural history discussed by FitzGibbon et al. (1995); univariate analyses with small sample sizes suggest clinal variation along coastal Tanzania, not the existence of two species, but the matter of synonymy was left as inconclusive.
Order Rodentia - Family Nesomyidae
distribution
Distribution: SE Kenya and E Tanzania (FitzGibbon et al., 1995: Fig. 1).

discussion
COMMENT: Includes major which was listed as a distinct species by Misonne, 1974, Part 6: 11; see Ansell, 1978: 76. After examining specimens of both, MDC would retain major as a separate species pending demonstration of conspecificity with hindei.
