Freshwater fishes (Petromyzonti, Elasmobranchii, and Actinopteri) of Bosnia and Herzegovina: an updated inventory on the biodiversity and distribution
discussion
Remarks It is possible that Alburnoides bipunctatus does not occur in the waters of BiH. The taxonomic status of this species needs revision, as three distinct genetic evolutionary lineages have been revealed in the Danube River Basin, with two recorded in BiH, both possibly representing new species still not described (Stierandová et al. 2016). Vukić et al. (2019) reports a record of astill unnamed Alburnoides sp. from the Neretva River basin. Based on the molecular analyses of cytochrome b gene this population belongs to Alburnoides sp. 1 sensu Stierandová et al. (2016) inhabiting the Sava River Basin (Danube River Basin).

distribution
Origin and geographic range in BiH Native to the Danube River Basin, translocated to the Adriatic Basin.

discussion
Remarks. This species was identified from the Weser River near Minden, Germany. It is distributed in Europe and western Asia. Therefore, Afghanistan is not included in the natural distribution range of the species. Many of the newly identified species have been misidentified as Alburnoides bipunctatus, such as Alburnoides holciki (Coad & Bogutskaya 2012). Previous reports of this taxon were probably based on Alburnoides holciki.
